Descendants of Joachim Friederich Cobernuss
Joachim Friederich Cobernuss lived in Thuerkow Parish, Mecklenburg. Joachim was the great-grandfather of three brothers who immigrated to the USA in 1871 and 1882. These brothers settled in and around Detroit Michigan and were in the Dairy business for many years.
Joachim
Friederich's great-grandson Friederich Cobernuss was the first to
emigrate to the US in 1871. Born in Levitzow, Thuerkow parish in
1845, Friederich in New York on the Allemania
11 Nov 1871. On the same ship and listed with Friederich was the
Pluegge family from Klenz, Mecklenburg. Klenz is about five
miles from Levitzow.
Although these three villages are very close together, they are
actually in three different parishes; Levitzow is in Thuerkow
Parish, Matgendorf is in Belitz and Klenz is in Joedensdorf.
The fact that Friederich was traveling with the Pluegge family might
indicate he was related to them in some way.
Two other great-grandsons of Joachim Friederich Cobernuss immigrated
to the US on the Lessing
in November 1882. Christian Cobernuss was traveling with
his wife and two sons and bachelor brother Henry. Extracts of
the passenger lists and a map of the villages they lived in are
provided below. Click on the images below

At this point not much is know about the lives of these three brothers other than they were dairy farmers in Royal Oak Michigan. As we learn more we'll update this page. We hope to include family stories and pictures and encourage members of these families to contact h.lemanski or the webmaster gkobernus regarding contributions to this page.
